Liew Goal lifts DeSales to 5th Straight Win, 2-0 over Baptist Bible

Senior Kelly Hinkle made three saves and recorded her sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win on Senior Day.

Center Valley, PA (October 25, 2006) – Freshman Kristin Liew (Easton, PA/Easton) scored her first career goal lifting the DeSales University women’s soccer team past Baptist Bible College, 2-0, for the Bulldogs fifth straight win in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.

DSU evens its record at 9-9 overall, while the Lady Defenders fall to 13-6-1 overall with the loss.  DeSales out-shot BBC, 20-7, and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.  Senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made three saves to start a new scoreless streak with her sixth shutout of the season.  It’s the 17th of her career and ties the single-season record which she also equaled last season.

Liew’s game-winner came at the 29:01 mark of the first half.  She sent a centering pass from the right corner into the box, but the pass kept drifting towards the net and eventually sailed over the goalkeeper’s head and into the far left corner for her first career goal.

The Bulldogs also scored in the second half on an own goal.  Sophomore Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) and freshman Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) made the play happen as Eustace sent a centering pass into the box and Halpin one-timed a shot towards the net.  A BBC player stopped the shot just before it crossed the goal line and attempted to clear the ball but her attempt hit the goalkeeper and caromed back into the net for the second goal of the game.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Sunday, October 29th as they face Lycoming College in a very important Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
