Senior Randy Sturm scored two goals to tie Tim Riggs for the all-time scoring lead with 132 career points.

Center Valley, PA, (October 29, 2006) – Senior Randy Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scored two goals to tie the all-time scoring record of 132 points and lead the DeSales University men’s soccer team past Lycoming College, 3-1, to earn the #3 seed in the upcoming Freedom Conference playoffs on a windy Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs finish the regular season with an 11-4-3 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the Freedom Conference.  DSU will travel to the #2 seed Wilkes University for the opening round of the Freedom Conference playoffs on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm.  Lycoming ends its season with a 6-8-3 overall record and a 2-4-1 conference mark.

Sturm scored two goals including the game-winner at the 76:27 mark to tie Tim Riggs for the all-time scoring lead with 132 career points.  Sturm now has 54 career goals and 24 assists in his career.  He is the all-time leader in assists and ranks second to Riggs in goals (59).

Trailing 1-0 at the half, DSU dominated the second stanza with three unanswered goals.  The Bulldogs were out-shot 18-13, but held an 11-3 advantage in the second half en route to the win.  Junior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) had six saves, while Matt Klipp had three for Warriors.

Paul Bocher gave the visitor’s a one goal lead at 22:50 of the first half when he knocked home a crossing pass from Dan Jackson.  The Warriors held a 15-2 edge in shots in the opening half.

In the second half the Bulldogs took full advantage of the wind as Sturm tied the game at 68:27 when he scored on a crossing pass from sophomore German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale).  He tied the scoring record just nine minutes later on a corner kick feed from Reyes, his 13th assist of the season, which hit the crossbar and bounced into the net.

Reyes added the exclamation point at 87:43 when he took a long pass from fellow sophomore David Ackley (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) and scored his eighth goal of the season.

DSU will enter the 2006 conference playoffs as the defending champions.  They defeated Wilkes University in the first round and Drew University in the Freedom Conference championship game last season to win its first-ever Freedom Conference title.
