Center Valley, PA (October 7, 2006) – The DeSales University field hockey team scored twice in a span of 20 seconds to cut a three-goal deficit to just one goal but were unable to find the tying marker and The University of Scranton escaped with a 3-2 win in Freedom Conference action.
The Lady Royals (8-3, 4-0 Freedom) scored all three of its goals in a span of six and a half minutes with the first coming at the 28:49 mark by Kristy McNevin. Sam Camoni scored off an assist from Karolyn Holody just four and a half minutes later to make it 2-0 entering halftime and Holody scored 1:24 into the second half off a feed from Diana Rocklein to make it 3-0.
DSU stormed back into the game at the 53:46 mark when junior Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) scored her ninth goal of the season off a feed from fellow junior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton). Just 20 seconds later freshman Meghan Iudicello (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) scored her fifth goal of the year, an unassisted tally, to make it 3-2 but the Bulldogs (7-5, 1-2 Freedom) were unable to find the tying marker as the Scranton held on for the win.
UofS out-shot DSU, 10-9, while DeSales held a 7-5 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made four saves in between the pipes in the loss.
DSU returns to action on Monday, October 9th when they host Drew University in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
