Reading, PA (October 9, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s soccer team was unable to find the back of the net on Monday afternoon falling to Alvernia College, 2-0, in a non-conference game.
The Bulldogs (4-9 overall) controlled play for most of the game holding a 16-11 advantage on shots but none of the 16 attempts found nylon as the Crusaders (4-6-1 overall) used two different goalkeepers to record the shutout.
Alvernia scored the eventual game-winner 6:44 into the second half when Kate McCaffrey scored on a header off a corner kick feed from Karen Hutton. The score remained 1-0 until the final moments of the game when Kristina Bittner tallied the insurance goal at 85:04, her third goal of the season. Senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made seven saves in the loss for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, October 14th when they travel to King’s College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 11:00 am.
