Elizabethtown, PA, (November 17, 2006) – Senior Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) scored a team-high 20 points but it was not enough as the DeSales University men’s basketball team dropped its season opener to #5 Ohio Northern University, 74-57, in the opening round of the Elizabethtown College Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.

 

        DeSales (0-1 overall) trailed by just four points at the half but were outscored by 13 points in the second stanza in the loss.  Ohio Northern (1-0 overall) dominated the boards out-rebounding DSU, 40-22.  ONU pulled down more offensive boards (23) than the Bulldogs had total (22) in the game.  DSU shot 51.1 percent (24-of-47) for the game but were outscored 24-6 at the free throw line as Ohio Northern was 24-of-27 (88.9 %) from the charity stripe and the Bulldogs were only 6-of-13 (46.2 %) from the freebie line.

 

        Kriczky shot 9-of-13 from the field in scoring his team-high 20 tallies.  Junior Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) added 14 points and a team-high five rebounds as the only Bulldog in double figures.  Freshman Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) came off the bench to score eight points and junior Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had seven points, three assists and three steals in the loss.

 

        Greg Badenhop led ONU with 21 points on the strength of a 10-of-11 performance at the free throw line.  Bart Hostetler tallied 15 points off the bench and Jake Cannan tallied 10 points to round out the double figure scorers.
