Balanced Attack leads DeSales past Delaware Valley, 85-62

Junior Jamie McCloskey scored a career-high 15 points in the win over Delaware Valley College on Wednesday.

Doylestown, PA, (November 29, 2006) – Four players reached double digits including junior Jamie McCloskey (Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) who scored a career-high 15 points leading the DeSales University men’s basketball team past Delaware Valley College in the Freedom Conference season opener on Wednesday evening in James Work Gymnaisum.
 
        The Bulldogs (3-2, 1-0 Freedom) torched the nets at a 54.5 percent clip, 75.0 percent (18-for-24) in the second half, en route to the win.  The Aggies (1-4, 0-1 Freedom) shot just 37.5 percent, 29.0 percent (9-of-31) in the first half.  DSU dominated the boards, grabbing 18 offensive boards and out-rebounding the Aggies, 46-27, for the game.
 
        A close game in the first half was blown open in the second half by a 34-14 run over an 11-minute stretch courtesy of the Bulldogs.  Leading 37-35 at the 16:53 mark, McCloskey started the spurt with a three-point play on a full court pass from junior Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland).
 
        Junior Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored the next four points followed by five straight tallies from sophomore Jeff Raimo (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) as seven different players scored during the run and the Bulldogs cruised the rest of the way.
 
        McCloskey shot 5-for-6 from the field to record his career-high 15 points.  Stricker and sophomore Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) each added 12 points and Raimo tallied 10 off the bench to round out the double figure scorers.  Lapinski also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and Ohlson had a season-high nine assists in the win.
 
        Delaware Valley also had four players in double digits with Josh Taylor leading the way with 13 points.  Zack Van Dyke had 12 points, Ryan Thomas tallied 11 markers and Jason Seipt had 10 in the loss.

        The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, December 3rd when they host King’s College in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:00 pm.
