Women’s Track and Field Competes at Lehigh University Invitational

Senior Michelle Rehnert finished among the top six in two events on Friday evening.
Bethlehem, PA, (December 8, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s track and field team continued its indoor season competing at the Lehigh University Invitational in a non-scoring team meet with Moravian College and Lehigh University on Friday evening in Bethlehem, PA.
 
        Among the top finishers for the Bulldogs was senior Eileen Lavelle (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) in the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.2 seconds.  In the 400-meter dash freshman Lauren Annucci (Aston, PA/Padua Academy) took home fourth place (66.1 seconds) and fellow freshman Taryn Collins (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) finished sixth in a time of 69.1 seconds.
 
        The Bulldogs dominated the 800-meter and 1,000-meter runs.  In the 800-meter the freshman trio of Alessandro LaMastro (Flanders, NJ/Pope John XXIII), Jeanine Walsh (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) and Amanda Sell (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) finished in fourth (2:33.90), fifth (2:37.00) and sixth place (2:41.60), while in the 1,000-meter LaMastro took home first place (3:25.00), Walsh finished second place (3:26.00), freshman Beth Malseed (Claymont, DE/Archmere Academy) was fourth (3:29.60), junior Laura Durso (Old Tappan, NJ/Northern Valley) came across the line in fifth place (3:30.50) and freshman Ashley Short (Temple, PA/Muhlenberg) finished in sixth place (3:51.60).
 
        In the field events, freshman Meghan Weber (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks West) finished in first place in the 35 lb. weight throw (11.43 meters) and senior Michelle Rehnert (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) was just behind Weber in second place with a toss of 11.27 meters.  The duo teamed up in the shot put as well as Weber took second place (9.92 meters) and Rehnert took fourth place (8.3 meters).
 
        Rounding out the top finishers was freshman Samantha Ward (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus) who took third in the pole vault (10-00.00 feet) and fellow freshman Shannon Webb (Bensalem, PA/Archbishop Ryan) who took sixth in the pole vault (8-00.00 feet).

         DSU does not return to action until the New Year, when they travel to the Muhlenberg College Invitational on January 26th.
