Camden, NJ (March 25, 2006) – The DeSales University baseball team suffered its third straight loss on Saturday afternoon at the hands of Rutgers-Camden, 4-3 (10 innings), in non-conference action at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ.
The Bulldogs fall to 5-6 overall with the loss, while Rutgers-Camden improves to 12-6 overall. Sophomore Mike Concilio (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) suffered the loss in relief of senior Matt Reppert (Allentown, PA/Dieruff) who lasted seven innings allowing just six hits and two runs to go along with five strikeouts.
DSU took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th inning as junior Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) knocked in freshman Greg Treat (Concord, NJ/Concord) who had walked to lead-off the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Concilio walked the lead-off hitter and struck out the second guy. After a double put runners on second and third, the Bulldogs intentionally walked the bases loaded with one out, but N. Turekian doubled to right field scoring two runs handing Rutgers the one-run extra inning victory.
The Bulldogs had leads of 1-0 after the first inning on Pisker’s first RBI single of the afternoon and 2-0 thru three and a half innings after sophomore Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) knocked in Pisker with an RBI double. Rutgers-Camden scored once in the fourth and once in the seventh to tie the game at two before the extra inning heroics.
Three Bulldogs accounted for all eight of the DeSales hits including Pisker with four, sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) with three and Matejicka with the RBI double.
DSU returns to action on Sunday as they host Franklin & Marshall College in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
