Center Valley, PA, (April 1, 2006) – Junior Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) earned a complete-game win and had the game-winning hit in game one and freshman John Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run first inning in game two to lead the DeSales University baseball team past Delaware Valley College, 2-1 in game one and 11-1 in game two on a windy Saturday afternoon in Center Valley, PA.
The doubleheader sweep completes the three-game weekend series sweep for the Bulldogs who have now won four straight and improve to 9-7 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the Freedom Conference standings. The Aggies fall to 8-9 overall and 1-5 in the Freedom.
In game one, the Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead when sophomore Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) doubled to lead off the second inning and later scored on a wild pitch. DVC tied the score in the fourth on an RBI single from Steve Kinney and the game remained tied at one thru six innings.
In the seventh, Pisker stranded runners on first and third but got some help from senior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) who made a diving catch in shallow centerfield for the third and final out. In the bottom of the inning, freshman Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle College) led off with a double. Miller laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that turned into an infield single. After the Aggies intentionally walked J. Pisker to load the bases, L. Pisker came to the plate and laced a single into leftfield as Pennington trotted home with the game-winning run.
L. Pisker went the distance on the mound allowing just five hits and one run to improve to 1-3 on the year. Seven different Bulldogs had hits including Matejicka and Pennington with a double and run scored each.
In game two, the Bulldogs took an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. Freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) had an RBI single, scored on an error by the Aggie leftfielder later in the inning and J. Pisker capped the big inning with a long three-run home run to right field.
Sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) had an RBI single in the fourth inning and finished the game 2-for-2 with a run scored and the Bulldogs tallied five more runs in the fifth with the big blow coming off L. Pisker’s bat, a two-run shot to right-centerfield. Freshman Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) had a two-run single just before Pisker’s blast in the fourth.
Sophomore JT Brotosky (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) earned his second win of the season tossing six shutout innings allowing just five hits and striking out six. In addition to Heards two hits, Bianca, J. Pisker, Miller and Treat each had two hits in the game two win.
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, April 3rd as they host College Misericordia in a non-conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
