Early lead spoiled as DSU Baseball falls at Montclair State, 7-3

Sophomore Scott Matejicka was 1-for-3 with two RBI's and a run scored in the 7-3 loss at Montclair State University.

Little Falls, NJ (April 11, 2006) – The DeSales University baseball returned to the field for its fourth game in three days on Tuesday afternoon, falling at Montclair State University, 7-3, in non-conference action.

     The Bulldogs (12-10 overall) jumped ahead early taking a 2-0 lead in the first inning when sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) singled and scored on a double from fellow sophomore Scott Matejicka (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall).  Matejicka advanced to third on a single from junior Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) and later scored on an error by the MSU catcher.

     The Red Hawks (12-9-2 overall) got on the board in the third inning with a single run and took the lead for good in the fourth when they plated two more runs.

     The lead swelled to 6-2 in the sixth as DeSales was unable to get anything going offensively until the eighth inning when freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) singled, stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher and scored on a Matejicka sacrifice fly.

     Freshman James Niesuchouski (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) took the loss lasting just four innings allowing four hits and two earned runs to go along with five strikeouts.  Bianca and Pisker each had two hits and Matejicka drove in two of the three runs for DeSales.

    DSU gets no rest for the weary as they travel to Stevens Institute of Technology for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm on Wednesday evening.
