LaPlume, PA, (April 15, 2006) – Five different Bulldogs had multiple hits and the DeSales University baseball team rallied from a 7-3 and 10-7 deficit to record a 14-10 non-conference win over Keystone College on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
The win moves DeSales to 14-11 overall, while the Giants drop to an identical 14-11 mark. DSU actually led early scoring once in the first inning and twice in the second to lead 3-1, but KC scored six times in the bottom of the second to take a 7-3 lead and led 9-7 after three innings.
Trailing 10-7 in the fifth, the Bulldogs started its rally. Senior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) plated freshman John Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) with a sacrifice fly and sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) knocked in freshman Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle College) to cut the margin to 10-9.
The deficit remained one until the seventh when DeSales scored four times. Freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) and senior Matt Burkhart (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) each knocked in one run and freshman Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) had a two-RBI single to give the Bulldogs a 13-10 advantage.
DSU added one more run on an RBI double from Bianca in the eighth before the bullpen recorded its fifth straight shutout inning to end the game.
Freshman James Niesuchouski (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) earned his team-leading third win by pitching 6.2 solid innings of relief for the starter, junior Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley), who lasted just 1.1 innings. Junior Jon Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) came on in the ninth with two men on-base to record his fourth save of the season.
Treat and fellow freshman Pat Campbell (Bellerose Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) each led the hit parade with four hits and Treat added three RBI’s. Heard tallied three hits and three RBI’s, Bianca had one hit and three RBI’s, J. Pisker had two hits and two runs scored and Pennington totaled three hits and four runs scored in the win.
DSU takes off on Sunday for the Easter holiday and returns to action on Monday, April 17th as they travel to King’s College for the final two games of its Freedom Conference series over the weekend.
