Mound Staff leads DeSales to doubleheader split at Kean

Senior Danielle Jenson improved to 3-2 on the year with a complete-game win over Kean in game one on Wednesday.

Hillside, NJ, (April 19, 2006) – Senior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and junior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) each tossed complete-game gems as the DeSales University softball team split its non-conference doubleheader at Kean University on Wednesday winning game one, 2-1, before dropping game two by the same score.

The split moves DeSales to 9-18 for the season, while the Cougars go to 19-13 on the year.  Jenson tossed a five-hit gem in the first game to earn the win and improve to 3-2 on the year.  She allowed just the one run and struck out three.

DSU scored both of its runs in the first inning.  After freshman Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) reached on an error by the Cougar third baseman, senior Jenna Rau (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) also reached base on a fielder’s choice sacrifice bunt.  Jenson sacrificed both runners up one base and with two out Pfitzenmayer scampered home on a wild pitch.  On the play Rau moved up to third and was able to score when the catcher’s throw back to home plate in an attempt to tag out Pfitzenmayer got away.

The Bulldogs only had one hit in the first game a bunt single from freshman Maddie Roxandich (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) in the third inning.

In game two, Wilk was once again the hard luck loser despite pitching brilliantly.  She allowed just six hits and two runs to go along with three strikeouts lowering her season ERA to 2.19.

DSU scored its lone run in the third when freshman Kelly Moran (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) reached via an error and later scored on throwing error following a single from Roxandich.  The Bulldogs had just three hits in the second game, two of which came off the bat of Jenson.

DSU returns to action on Saturday, April 22nd when they travel to Lycoming College for a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
