Madison, NJ, (April 21, 2006) – The DeSales University baseball team fell short once again in Freedom Conference play falling at Drew University, 3-2. The loss drops DSU to 15-14 overall and 6-5 in the Freedom Conference standings, while the Rangers improve to 13-17 overall and 7-6 in the Freedom.
Freshman James Niesuchouski (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) was brilliant in making his first career start in a Freedom Conference game. He allowed just seven hits and three runs over seven innings but suffered the loss falling to 3-2 on the year. Justin Distler was just a little bit better than Niesuchouski allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out seven to earn the win.
The Rangers got on the board first scoring all three of its runs in the fourth inning when Niesuchouski allowed five of the seven hits, all of which were singles, in the third inning.
DSU scored its first run in the sixth inning when sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) reached base via a hit by pitch and later scored on freshman Matt Johanson’s (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) single.
The Bulldogs pulled within one run in the seventh on an RBI single from freshman Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle College) plating freshman Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) but left eight men on-base during the game and were never able to get a long rally started.
DSU is scheduled to return to action tomorrow when they host these same Rangers in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
