Limeport, PA, (April 26, 2006) – Five DeSales University pitchers allowed just six hits and one unearned run leading the DeSales University baseball team past local rival Moravian College, 2-1, in a non-conference game played under the lights at Limeport Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Senior Pete Quarracino (Kimberton, PA/Phoenixville) started things off with three innings allowing three hits and the one unearned run in the third inning. Senior Jon Pallone (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) tossed a perfect fourth inning, senior Joe Chapman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) threw two innings allowing one hit and striking out two, freshman James Niesuchouski (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic) got DSU thru the seventh allowing one hit and striking out one and freshman Andrew Kulhamer (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) shut the door on the Greyhounds with a dominating final two innings striking out five and allowing just one hit.
The Bulldogs (17-15 overall) got on the board in the fifth inning when freshman Matt Connors (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) stroked a big two-out double down the left-field line scoring fellow freshman Matt Johanson (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, who had doubled to lead off the inning.
DSU took the lead for good in the sixth when freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) knocked in fellow freshman Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle College) who had singled with two out and moved to third base on a stolen base and throwing error by the Moravian catcher.
Moravian (5-29 overall) took the early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third inning on an RBI single from Josh Baltz. Trevor Lawrence took the loss going all nine innings allowing nine hits and those two runs.
DeSales returns to action on Friday, April 28th when they host FDU-Florham in the first game of a very important three-game set this weekend. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm and the game is scheduled to be televised LIVE once again on Service Electric Cable TV, channel 2 locally.
