Center Valley, PA, (April 3, 2006) – The DeSales University baseball team exploded for 20 hits and won its fifth straight game defeating College Misericordia, 17-2, in non-conference action on a cloudy but dry Monday afternoon.
DSU (10-7 overall) scored in just three innings but had big innings each time scoring eight times in the third, four times in the fifth and five times in the seventh. Freshman James Niesuckouski (Hicksville, NY/St. Dominic), the Cambridge Search Player of the Game, earned the win pitching a strong six innings allowing just four hits and striking out six. He improves to 2-0 on the year and lowers his season ERA to 3.94.
Offensively, 11 of the 13 Bulldogs who went to the plate tallied hits. Junior Luke Pisker (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) and senior Matt Burkhart (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) each had three hits to lead the attack.
Freshman Pat Campbell (Bellerose Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) finished 2-for-6 with three RBI’s, freshman Nick Repas (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) was 2-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI’s and freshmen Mike Piekarski (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) and Michael Ellard (Washington, NJ/Warren Hills Regional) each had their first career hits in the win.
Ellard, freshman Matt Johanson (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) and freshman Anthony Calafato (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional) each had two hits, while Piekarski, freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph), senior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) and freshman Greg Treat (Concord, NH/Concord) totaled one hit.
The Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday, April 3rd as they travel to Rutgers-Newark for another non-conference game beginning at 7:30 pm at Skylands Park in Sussex, NJ.
