Rutgers-Newark Blanks Bulldogs, 6-0

Senior Jon Pallone lasted 5.1 innings allowing seven hits and three runs in the 6-0 loss at Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday evening.
 
Sussex, NJ, (April 4, 2006) – One day after pounding out 20 hits and scoring 17 runs the DeSales University baseball team was unable to plate a single run falling to Rutgers–Newark, 6-0, in a non-conference game at Skylands Park in Sussex, NJ on Tuesday evening.
 
        The Bulldogs (10-8 overall) best chance to score came in the first inning after putting its first two runners on-base, freshman Mike Bianca (Ellicott City, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) grounded into a double play with the second out coming at home plate.  The game was a scoreless tie thru the first 4 ½ innings before the Rutgers-Newark (12-9 overall) scored three times in the bottom of the fifth inning on three hits.
 
        Newark plated one more run in the sixth inning on back-to-back hits to start the inning and posted the final margin with two more in the eighth inning.
 
        Senior Jon Pallone (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) took the loss lasting 5.1 innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs.  DSU managed just five hits in the game with Bianca stroking two of them and senior Derek Miller (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen), sophomore Andrew Heard (Alexandria, VA/Hayfield) and freshman Mike Pennington (Dresher, PA/LaSalle College) having the other three.

         The Bulldogs return to action on Friday when they return to Freedom Conference play traveling to Wilkes-Barre, PA to take on Wilkes University in the first game of a three-game set this weekend.  First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
