Bethlehem, PA, (April 6, 2006) – The DeSales University softball team lost in its attempt to gain local bragging rights falling to local rival Moravian College, 5-2 and 4-1, in non-conference action on a sunny Thursday afternoon.

In both games, DSU (8-13 overall) took 1-0 leads only to have the Greyhounds (21-3 overall) answer back with a four-run fifth inning in game one and three-run fourth inning in game two to earn the sweep.

In game one, junior Amanda Martinenza (Boothwyn, PA/Garnet Valley) plated freshman Amanda Kensecki (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) with DSU’s first run in the fourth inning.  Moravian scored four times in the fifth and once more in the sixth to take a 5-1 lead before freshman Jamie Pfitzenmayer (Annandale, NJ/Hunterdon Central) doubled home junior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) in the seventh inning to post the final score.

The Greyhounds’ Megan Hennessey earned the win allowing just three hits and striking out eight over seven innings.  Senior Danielle Jenson (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) took the loss allowing eight hits and four runs over five innings.

In game two, DSU plated its one and only run in the second inning when senior Jenna Rau (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) knocked in Kensecki with an RBI single.  MC tied the game at one in the bottom of the second inning and took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

MC’s Kristie Pellicani earned the win allowing just Rau’s RBI single in the second and striking out nine over seven innings of work.  Wilk took the loss allowing seven hits and three runs in three innings of relief for junior Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll).
