Men’s Lacrosse tops Alvernia for First Win of the Season

Reading, PA, (April 6, 2006) – The DeSales University men’s lacrosse team got into the win column on Thursday afternoon using a four-goal second period to defeat Alvernia College, 8-1, in non-conference action in Reading, PA.
 
        The win is the first of the season for the Bulldogs (1-7 overall), snapping a seven-game losing streak.  The loss drops the Crusaders to 1-7 overall as well.  Leading 1-0 after the first period, DSU scored four times in the second stanza to take a 5-0 halftime lead.  Both teams scored once in the third period before the Bulldogs tallied two more goals in the fourth to provide the final margin.
 
        Freshman Matthew Brancaccio (Greenvale, NY/North Shore) led the offensive attack with two goals and three assists including the game-winner.  Brancaccio had a hand in each of the first five goals scored in the game.
 
        Sophomore Andy Petack (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and freshman Joshua Van Hart (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) each had two goals and freshman Ricky Larkin (Holladay, UT/Olympus) and sophomore Dan Thomer (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
 
        Along with Brancaccio’s three helpers, Petack, sophomore Tom Carr (Atco, NJ/Paul VI) and sophomore Jay Young (Pittstown, NJ/North Hunterdon) also had one assist in the win.
 
        Junior Jon-Erik Stamatelos (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) led DSU with 12 grounds balls and junior Ben Conroy (Easton, PA/Moravian Academy) and freshman William Kehoe (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) combined to make 10 saves and allow just one goal.

        The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, April 8th, traveling to The University of Scranton for a MAC Conference game beginning at 2:00 pm.
