Edwardsville, PA, (April 8, 2006) – Two days after recording just four hits in a doubleheader at Moravian College, the DeSales University softball team continued to struggle at the plate, totaling just three hits and dropping both games of a doubleheader at Wilkes University by scores of 2-0 and 5-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The two Lady Colonels pitchers combined to allow three hits and no runs while striking out 25 over the two games to lead WU (11-9, 7-1 Freedom) to the sweep.  The losses drop DSU to 8-15 overall and 2-6 in the Freedom Conference standings.

Wilkes’ Laurie Agresti blanked DSU in the first game allowing just a single off the bat of senior Jenna Rau (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) in the sixth inning.  Agresti struck out 11 to earn the win.  Junior Elise Wilk (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy) suffered the loss allowing nine hits and two runs to go along with seven strikeouts.

In the second game, freshman Samantha Evanich tossed a two-hit shutout allowing singles to junior Jennifer Cybularz (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Carroll) and junior Jaime Stover (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) and striking out 14 over seven innings.

WU used a pair of DSU errors in the third inning to push across four runs and never looked back.  Evanich and Nadine Taylor reached base via error when Jan Nunnemacher laced a double that scored Taylor and Melissa Bracone finished off the rally with a three-run home run to left field.

DSU returns to action on Saturday, April 15th when they host Drew University in a Freedom Conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
