Center Valley, PA, (September 12, 2006) – Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) won her fifth straight singles match and the DeSales University women’s tennis team improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom Conference with a 5-4 win over FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon.
McClurkin, the Freedom Conference Player of the Week as announced on Monday, improved to 5-0 at the No. 1 singles spot with the clinching point and a 6-4, 6-3 win over Leslee Johnson. McClurkin also teamed with junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) teamed with McClurkin to win at the No. 1 doubles spot, 8-6, and McElvaney won her singles match, 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot.
Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) also earned a singles win at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-0 and teamed with sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) at the No. 2 doubles spot with an 8-0 win.
DSU will return to action on Thursday, September 14th when they host Alvernia College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
