Pietrobon/LaDuke lead DeSales past Neumann, 6-1

Sophomore Nicole Pietrobon scored twice to lead the DeSales University women's soccer team past Neumann College on Saturday afternoon.

Center Valley, PA (September 16, 2006) – Sophomore Nicole Pietrobon (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and freshman Emily LaDuke (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) each scored two goals to lead the DeSales University women’s soccer team past Neumann College, 6-1, in non-conference action on a soggy Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (1-4 overall) dominated play most of the afternoon, holding a 24-4 edge in shots and a 5-2 lead in corner kicks.  DSU scored three times in each half and led 6-0 before the Knights (2-3 overall) got on the board with just under 20 minutes left.

Freshman Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) started the scoring at the 21:04 mark when she took a long pass from senior Jessica Tate (Warrington, PA/Mount St. Joseph Academy) and chipped a shot over a charging Neumann goalie and into the net.  LaDuke got into the scoring act just 2:30 minutes later when she scored on a penalty kick and Pietrobon concluded the first-half attack on a beautiful header into the left corner of the net off a free kick pass from LaDuke.

Sophomore Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) started the second half scoring when she took a long pass, dodged past a charging keeper, and fired the ball towards the far post.  The Knight’s sweeper attempted to save the ball with her foot but it glanced into the net for Eustace’ second tally of the season.

Pietrobon made it 5-0 just three minutes later when she took another LaDuke pass and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper’s head and into the net and LaDuke put an exclamation point on the afternoon when she took a pass from freshman Gina Locke (Garnder, MA/Gardner), dodged two defenders and the goalie and scored from the left corner.

Senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made two saves in between the pipes for DeSales in earning her first win of the season.  Kelsey Toomey stopped 10 DSU shots in the loss.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Monday, September 18th as they host Marywood University in another non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
