Center Valley, PA (September 18, 2006) – Sophomore Dana Eustace (Highland Lakes, NJ/Vernon Township) was close all day but the only one that mattered was her blast with just 11.2 seconds showing on the clock as the DeSales University women’s soccer team won its second straight game, 3-2, over Marywood University on a beautiful Monday afternoon.

 

        Eustace was inches away from having as many as three goals on the day.  Mid-way thru the first half she took a long pass and was on a breakaway towards the goalie only to see her shot saved by a sprawling Pacer (4-2 overall) keeper who kicked it back towards midfield.

 

        In the second half with the Bulldogs (2-4 overall) leading 2-1, Eustace had a chance to put the game away as she broke thru the defense on an excellent pass from freshman Emily LaDuke (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) and was once again alone with the goaltender.  This time her shot seemed destined for the far right corner of the net as she hit what seemed to be a perfect shot but the MU goalie was up to the task once again, diving to her left and just tipping the ball enough to stop it and crawl after the spinning ball.

 

        Marywood seemed to gain some momentum with that second save and tied the game just minutes later when Tori Mazza took a perfect centering pass from Claudia Mazza and fired it into the top right corner of the goalmouth.  The tying goal came at 64:43 and over the next 25 minutes the game seemed destined for overtime.

 

        With about 40 seconds left Marywood was threatening in the DeSales half of the field.  The Bulldogs gained control and a long clear went right to sophomore Katie Dishman (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) on the left side of the field.  Dishman turned and fired an over the top pass to Eustace on the right side.  She controlled the ball, turned, took two dribbles and blasted a shot into the far left corner of the goal to give DSU a 3-2 lead and just 11.2 seconds was showing on the scoreboard clock.  The goal was Eustace third on the season and gave Dishman her first assist on the year.

 

        The Pacers had taken a 1-0 lead at the 4:41 mark of the game when Marissa Ruda scored on two perfect passes from Kasey Connors and Lisa Hanselman.  DeSales answered with the tying marker just 14 minutes later when sophomore Nicole Pietrobon (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and freshman Emily LaDuke (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) continued their terrific play as LaDuke fired a pinpoint pass past about four MU defenders.  Pietrobon won a foot race to the ball with the goalie diving at the last second to just push the ball under the keeper and into the net.

 

        In the second half, Pietrobon struck again for her fourth goal in two games as Eustace found her this time alone in front of the net.  Pietrobon took a couple of dribbles and fired the ball into the net to make it a 2-1 game.  The Bulldogs held a 20-9 edge in shots and a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.  Senior Kelly Hinkle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) made two saves, while her counterpart, Amy Hand, stopped six Bulldog shots.
