Bethlehem, PA (September 2, 2006) – The DeSales University volleyball team began its 2006 season by posting a 2-2 record at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Timothy Breidegman Fieldhouse.
After losing both of its matches on Friday, DSU rallied to take both of its matches on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs fell to Swarthmore College (3-0) and Eastern University (3-0) on Friday and defeated Albright College (3-2) and Rowan University (3-1) on Saturday.
Freshman Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) had a fantastic opening weekend in a Bulldog uniform as the lone member of the All-Tournament team. Mellon had four match totals of 59 kills and 51 digs, while also leading DSU with 3.93 kills per game and a .239 hitting percentage.
Also performing well was junior Molly Motley (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic). Motley finished with 28 kills and a team-high eight blocks, junior Allie Boyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) totaled 23 kills, sophomore Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) finished with 130 assists (8.67 APG) and sophomore Rachel Koury (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) rounded out the team leaders with a team-high 69 digs (4.60 DPG).
DeSales will return to action on Tuesday, September 5th when they host Moravian College in a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
