Center Valley, PA (September 20, 2006) – Junior Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) had a hand in all four DeSales University goals recording two goals and two assists to lead the field hockey team past Albright College, 4-1, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) started the scoring when she took a centering pass from Pulcini and redirected it into the cage for a 1-0 lead at the 9:01 mark. The Lions (1-4 overall) answered with a goal at the 20:11 mark when Kelly Zepp redirected a long pass outside the circle past the DSU goaltender.
Pulcini put the Bulldogs (4-2 overall) right back on top at 24:32 when she took control of a loose ball in the circle and pushed it past the Lion keeper for her second goal of the season. Just five minutes later Pulcini again took control of a loose ball in the circle and pushed it between the legs of the AC keeper where freshman Meghan Iudicello (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) made sure the ball found the back of the cage and pushed it past the goal line.
In the second half Pulcini scored her second goal of the game when she redirected Sparango’s wide shot into the goal on a DSU penalty corner. DeSales out-shot Albright 26-14 and held a 10-6 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made six stops in between the pipes, while Brittany Simpson had nine saves for the Lions.
DSU will return to action on Friday, September 22nd as they travel to FDU-Florham for the Freedom Conference season opener beginning at 4:30 pm.
