Women’s Tennis cruises past Lycoming, 8-1

Junior Mary Kate McElvaney won her second straight match by a score of 6-0, 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Center Valley, PA, (September 20, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team improved to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom Conference with an 8-1 win over Lycoming College on Wednesday afternoon.
 
        For the second straight match, DSU swept all six singles matches as junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) led the way winning at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-3, 6-0.  Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won at the No. 2 spot 6-4, 6-4 and junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) earned a win at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
 
        Senior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) won 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot, sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) earned a win at the No. 5 spot, 6-11, 6-1 and freshman Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) won a hard fought match at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 1-0 (11-9).  In doubles action Guidon and Gerlach won at the No. 2 spot, 8-1 and Solomon and Brackbill won at the No. 3 spot, 8-0.

        The Bulldogs return to action on Thursday when they host Alvernia College in a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
