Center Valley, PA, (September 21, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team won its third straight match and improved to 8-1 on the season with a 9-0 win over Alvernia College in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon.
The Bulldogs nearly swept every game of every match winning 8-0 in all three doubles matches and winning 6-0, 6-0 in four of the six singles matches.
Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) won at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-0 and junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) earned a win at the No. 3 spot, 6-0, 6-0.
Senior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) won 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot, sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) earned a win at the No. 5 spot, 6-0, 6-0 and freshman Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) won a hard fought match at the No. 6 spot, 6-0, 6-0. In doubles action McCLurkin and McElvaney won at the No. 1 spot, Guidon and Gerlach won at the No. 2 spot, and Solomon and Brackbill won at the No. 3 spot.
DSU will put its three-match winning streak on the line on Monday, September 25th when they travel to Neumann College for a non-conference match beginning at 4:00 pm.
