Field Hockey Tops Immaculata, 4-2

Junior Jen Pulcini was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week as announced on Monday.

Immaculata, PA (September 25, 2006) – The DeSales University field hockey team got back into the win column on Monday afternoon topping Immaculata University, 4-2, in non-conference action.

Junior Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) and sophomore Amanda Deal (Macungie, PA/Whitehall) each scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs (5-3 overall) attack.  DSU out-shot IU 14-10 and held a 13-7 advantage on penalty corners.

Deal tied the game at one with the first goal for DSU at the 20:44 mark on an assist from junior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton).  Pulcini, who was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week on Monday morning, continued her torrid play with the second goal on an assist from senior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) giving DSU a 2-1 lead at the 53:34 mark of the second half.

Leading 2-1, Deal increased the lead with her second tally off another assist from Sparango at the 59:39 mark but that two-goal lead lasted just 1:06 as the Mighty Macs (1-7 overall) got back within one on a goal from Ali Micheletti.  Pulcini answered with her second tally giving DSU the two-goal cushion once again to post the final margin.

Freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made six saves in the win, while her counterpart, Bridget Dougherty made eight stops.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday when they host Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
