Center Valley, PA, (September 25, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team won its fourth straight match and improved to 9-1 on the season with a 9-0 win over Neumann College in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.
Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) won at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-1 and junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) earned a win at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
Senior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) won 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot, sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) earned a win at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0 and freshman Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) won a hard fought match at the No. 6 spot, 6-3, 6-2. In doubles action McClurkin and McElvaney won at the No. 1 spot, Guidon and Gerlach won at the No. 2 spot, and Solomon and Brackbill won at the No. 3 spot.
In the exhibition singles match, freshman Ingrid Hockenberry (Allentown, PA/Parkland) also won 8-5. DSU returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Drew University for an important Freedom Conference match beginning at 5:00 pm.
