Women’s Tennis Tops Drew, 8-1, wins Fifth Straight

Junior Courtney McClurkin earned a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles spot to help DSU clinch a Freedom Conference playoff spot on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Madison, NJ, (September 26, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team won its fifth straight match, improving to 10-1 overall and 4-1 in the Freedom Conference with an 8-1 win over Drew University on Tuesday afternoon.
 
        The win assures DSU a playoff spot in the Freedom Conference team playoffs which will begin on October 14th.  Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) won at the No. 1 singles spot, 6-3, 6-4.  Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-2 and junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) earned a win at the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
 
        Sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) earned a win at the No. 5 spot, 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6) and freshman Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) won at the No. 6 spot, 6-1, 6-0.  In doubles action McClurkin and McElvaney won at the No. 1 spot, Guidon and Gerlach won at the No. 2 spot, and senior Colleen Solomon (Catasauqua, PA/Allentown Central Cathlic) and Brackbill won at the No. 3 spot.

         The Bulldogs return to the court on Friday, September 29th at Ramapo College in a non-conference match beginning at 6:30 pm.
