Center Valley, PA (September 27, 2006) – Junior Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) continued her boiling hot play on Wednesday afternoon scoring two more goals to lead the DeSales University field hockey team past Delaware Valley College, 2-1, in a Freedom Conference game at Fasching Fields.
Pulcini has been nearly unstoppable over the past two weeks. During that span (five games) she has scored seven goals and added three assists for a total of 17 points. Pulcini was named the Freedom Conference Player of the Week on Monday and is putting together a nice resume for a second straight honor with four goals in two games this week thus far.
She started the scoring with an unassisted tally at the 14:09 mark of the first half and made it a two-goal game just three minutes later when she tipped in a shot off the stick of senior Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh).
DSU (6-3, 1-1 Freedom) held off a late rally by the Aggies (5-3, 1-1 Freedom) to record the win. The Bulldog defense led by sophomore Sarah Ball (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) and consisting of sophomores Marian Karnas (Burlington Township, NJ/Burlington Township) and Shannon Mascio (Collegeville, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) and junior Casey Opdyke (Bath, PA/Northampton) played one of its finest games this afternoon making several open field tackles and knocking away loose balls in the middle of the field to preserve the lead.
DeSales held a 22-8 advantage on shots and had a 7-4 edge in penalty corners. Freshman Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made three saves in the win, while her counterpart, Jackie Deschenes made nine stops.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Lebanon Valley College to take on the nationally ranked Flying Dutchmen in a non-conference game beginning at 11:00 am.
