Center Valley, PA, (September 4, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team has started the 2006 season with a 2-0 record after defeating Cedar Crest College, 8-1, on Monday afternoon in non-conference action.
For the second straight match, the Bulldogs swept all three doubles matches and this time DSU followed the doubles matches with five wins in the singles competition. Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot, junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) won at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-0 and sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/Milford) earned her first career win at the No. 3 spot, 7-5, 6-3.
Freshman Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) improved to 2-0 with a 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5) win at the No. 4 spot and sophomore Jess Ruhl (East Earl, PA/Garden Spot) earned a win at the No. 5 spot, 7-5, 6-0.
DSU returns to action on Thurdsay, September 7th when they host King’s College in the Freedom Conference season opener beginning at 4:30 pm.
