Bulldogs win Freedom Conference opener, 6-3, over King’s

Junior Courtney McClurkin stayed unbeaten with a 6-3, 6-1 win at the No. 1 singles spot on Thursday.
 
Center Valley, PA, (September 7, 2006) – The DeSales University women’s tennis team improved to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Freedom Conference defeating King’s College, 6-3, in the first conference match of the season for both teams on Thursday afternoon.
 
        Junior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) again led the way as she stayed unbeaten at the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kristen Hunter.  McClurkin also teamed with fellow junior Mary Kate McElvaney (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert) to win 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles spot and McElvaney earned a win at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-4, 6-0.
 
        Junior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and sophomore Caitlin Gerlach (Oak Ridge, NJ/West Milford) also earned two points as Guidon won at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-1, Gerlach won at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-0 and they teamed to win 8-2 at the second doubles spot.

          The Bulldogs will return to action on Saturday, April 9th as they travel on the road for the first time to take on Albright College in a non-conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.
