Late Run lifts DeSales past Wilkes, 68-58

Senior Steve Kriczky scored a career-high 23 points in the win over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon.

Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 13, 2007) – Senior Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) scored a career-high 23 points, including seven during a 13-0 game clinching run, leading the DeSales University men’s basketball team past Wilkes University, 68-58, in a Freedom Conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Marts Center.
 
        Trailing 49-45 with 8:45 to go, senior Sedale Walton (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) started its 13-0 spurt with a lay-up followed by a free throw and lay-up from Kriczky to give DSU a 50-49 lead.  Junior Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) went 4-for-4 from the foul line over the next two possessions and Kriczky ended the run with a driving lay-in as the shot clock was winding down and a steal and fast break lay-up to make it 58-49 with 3:18 to play.
 
        The Bulldogs converted 6-of-8 from the line the rest of the way to record its second win in as many years at the Marts Center.  DSU (11-3, 3-1 Freedom) shot a blistering 59.0 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Colonels (9-4, 1-3 Freedom), 35-26, in the win.
 
        The game was back and forth in the opening half with both team holding six point leads.  Wilkes led 24-18 before a 12-0 DSU run put the visitors up 30-24 and the Colonels finished the half with nine straight points to lead 33-30 heading into the locker rooms.
 
        Kriczky shot 8-for-10 from the field and 5-for-7 from three-point land.  Stricker added 17 points and pulled down five rebounds and junior Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) totaled 10 points and dished out five assists.
 
        Dan Adams had a team-high 14 points, Jeremy Kable totaled 11 points and Steve Kline rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 tallies for Wilkes.       The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 17th when they host Drew University for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 8:00 pm.
