Wilkes-Barre, PA (January 13, 2007) – Senior Kirby Lutz (Easton, PA/Pen Argyl) scored a game-high 23 points and became the 16th player in DeSales University women’s basketball history to reach the 1,000-point plateau leading the Bulldogs to a 77-46 win over Wilkes University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
 
        Lutz reached the 1,000-point mark with 9:58 left in the opening half converting a lay-up to put DSU up 23-9.  The Bulldogs (11-3, 4-0 Freedom) dominated the game opening up a 25-point halftime lead and pushing its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half.  DeSales forced 33 Lady Colonel turnovers and held WU (5-9, 1-3 Freedom) to 25.5 percent shooting for the game.
 
        Lutz, who also had seven rebounds and four steals in the win, now has 1,016 career points and ranks 16th on the all-time scoring list.  She is also among the all-time leaders in free throw attempts (2nd – 521) and free throws made (4th – 325).
 
        Junior Amanda Kuperavage (Port Carbon, PA/Nativity BVM) was the only other Bulldog in double figures with 11 points as eleven player scored points in the win.  Sophomore LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) totaled nine points, while sophomore Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill), junior Jenna Stampf (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) and freshman Kaila Wiand (Royersford, PA/Spring-Ford) all had six points.
 
        Junior Katie Cappelloni was the lone Lady Colonel in double digits recording a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
       The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, January 15th when they host Richard Stockton College in a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
