Center Valley, PA (January 27, 2007) – Junior Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) had all phases of his game working on Saturday afternoon tying his career-high with 16 points and dishing out a game-high nine assists in the 75-51 win over Wilkes University in Freedom Conference action on Saturday afternoon in Billera Hall.
Ohlson was 6-for-8 from the field including three treys and had numerous no look and length of the court passes to open teammates for his nine assists as the Bulldogs improved to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in the Freedom Conference, while Wilkes drops its sixth straight game and falls to 9-8 overall and 1-7 in the Freedom Conference. DeSales sweeps the season series for the first time in school history dating back to the 1997-98 season when DeSales joined the MAC/Freedom Conference.
The first half was full of runs by both teams as DeSales opened the game on a 20-6 run and led by 14 at the 11:28 mark before Wilkes tied the game at 27 on a 21-7 run over the next eight minutes. DSU blanked the Colonels over the last three and a half minutes and senior Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to put the Bulldogs up 33-27 at the break.
DSU led by eight early in the second period before a 25-5 run over a span of eight minutes closed the door on the Colonels as the Bulldogs opened up a 28-poiint lead, 62-34. Ohlson keyed the spurt with nine points and five assists and sophomore Matt Zwetolitz (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) also caught fire hitting two treys near the tail end of the run.
Joining Ohlson in double figures was junior Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) with 13 points and five rebounds and Zwetolitz who tallied 10 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting. Kriczky came out of a shooting slump to hit two three’s and finished with eight points and freshman Darnell Braswell (Allentown, PA/William Allen) totaled six points, a team-high nine rebounds and three assists in the win.
Freshman Anthony Gabriel was the lone Colonel in double figures with 11 points as Wilkes shot just 32.7 percent from the field and committed 20 turnovers.
The Bulldogs return to action on Monday, January 29th when they travel to PSU-Berks for a non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
