Center Valley, PA (January 4, 2007) – Senior Kirby Lutz (Easton, PA/Pen Argyl) tallied her third double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the DeSales University women’s basketball team past Wesley College (DE), 75-55, in the first game of the New Year for both squads on Thursday evening.
The Wolverines (1-8 overall) led 13-12 in the early going before the Bulldogs (8-3 overall) used a 15-1 run over a five and a half minute span to take a 13-point lead and never looked back. During the run Lutz tallied a team-high seven points and junior Jenna Stampf (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) totaled four points. DSU took an 11-point edge into the locker room and led by as many as 25 points in the second half, cruising to its third straight win.
Lutz shot 8-of-18 from the field and now stands just 38 points shy of becoming the 16th player in DeSales women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points. She now has eight double-doubles in her career. Also reaching double digits was sophomore LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) with 10 points and sophomore Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) with 11 points.
Stampf had a strong game off the bench with eight points and a season-high 10 rebounds and freshman Kelly Magrann (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) added eight points off the pine. Sophomore Lindsey Sykes (Avalon, NJ/Middle Township) had a team-high five assists and sophomore Erica Sovak (Tuxedo, NY/George F. Baker) totaled eight points in the win.
The Wolverines were led by Shirelle Tingle with a team-high 13 points, Domonique Barrett recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Heather Kennedy tallied 10 points to round out the double figure scorers.
DSU returns to action on Sunday, December 7th when they travel to Baruch College for a non-conference game beginning at 4:00 pm.
