BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (October 10, 2007) – The DeSales University men's soccer team used two second-half goals to break a 1-1 halftime tie and held on late for a 3-2 win over Wilkes University in a Freedom Conference game on a picture perfect Wednesday afternoon.

The win is the second straight for the Bulldogs who improve to 5-8-1 overall and 2-0 in the Freedom Conference, while the Colonels fall to 6-6-1 overall and 1-1 in the Freedom. DSU enjoyed a 26-17 edge in shots and had a slim 7-6 advantage on corner kicks in the win.

DSU started the scoring at the 4:20 mark when sophomore Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) took a pass across the goal from freshman Joe Yoha (DuBois, PA/DuBois) and one-timed a shot into the left corner of the net for his fourth goal of the season. The lead stood until the 13:00 minute mark when the Colonels tied it as Andy Curry scored off consecutive passes from Sean Vona and Kyle Dukmen. Curry's was a perfect one that landed just under the crossbar in the top left corner.

In the second half the Bulldogs came out aggressive taking the lead for good when junior Tim Hall (Montclair, VA/Bishop Ireton) scored his first goal of the year as he gathered the rebound of a Sturm shot that was saved and knocked it in the open net at the 46:49 mark.

DSU added an insurance goal at the 64:30 mark when junior Andrew Marshall (Greene, NY/Greene Central) took control of a ball on the right sideline, beat one defender, dribbled into the box and beat the goalkeeper to the far left post for his second goal of the year.

The insurance marker came in handy as Wilkes got within one goal at the 85:49 mark when Sean Stitt out hustled the DeSales defense to a loose ball and sent a high lofted shot into the net for his second goal of the season.

Sophomore Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) played well in goal for the Bulldogs making three saves, while TJ Baloga had eight stops for Wilkes.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, October 13th when they travel to FDU-Florham for another Freedom Conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
