BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (October 16, 2007) – The DeSales University men's soccer team had little trouble increasing its unbeaten streak to four games cruising past Delaware Valley College, 5-0, in a Freedom Conference game on another beautiful Tuesday afternoon.
DSU (6-8-2, 3-0-1 Freedom) out-shot the Aggies (2-14, 0-4 Freedom), 30-7, and held a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks. The Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead into the half with two early first-half goals and added three more tallies in the second half to provide the final margin.
Junior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) started the scoring with his sixth goal of the year off a feed from fellow junior Andrew Marshall (Greene, NY/Greene Central) 6:03 into the game. Marshall played a pass thru the defense and Reyes beat the goalkeeper to the right and knocked the ball into the open net. The second goal came just two minutes later as a pass into the box was cleared by an Aggie into their own net for an OWN goal.
The second half started with sophomore Dustin Sturm (North Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) scoring his sixth goal of the season taking a feed from freshman Joe Yoha (DuBois, PA/DuBois) and beating the DVC keeper to far post.
Sturm helped DeSales make it a 4-0 game just five minutes later when he drew a foul in the box with some nifty dribbling and let sophomore Tony Aufiero (Wall, NJ/Wall) kick the penalty kick for his first goal of the year. Reyes finished off the scoring, taking a throw-in feed from junior Chris Ravita (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) into his body, dribbling once to his right and firing a rocket from about 18 yards out just over the keeper's head and below the crossbar.
Senior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) combined with sophomore Keith Barry (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) to record the team's fifth shutout of the season. Riedmiller had two saves, while Barry did not have to make a save over the final 15 minutes.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, October 20th when they host Manhattanville College in another Freedom Conference game beginning at 2:30 pm.
