Center Valley, PA (October 2, 2007) – The DeSales University women's tennis clinched a Freedom Conference playoff spot in the spring by sweeping Arcadia University, 9-0, on Tuesday afternoon in a Freedom Conference match.
The win improves the Bulldogs to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the Freedom, while the loss drops the Knights to 3-7 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom. Senior Courtney McClurkin (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) led the way once again winning 6-0, 6-0 in singles and 8-0 in doubles teaming with freshman Kate Steiner (Walnutport, PA/Northampton).
Other singles winners included senior Liz Guidon (Northampton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) at the No. 2 spot, Steiner at the No. 3 spot, freshman Jess Smith (Abbottstown, PA/Delone Catholic) at the No. 4 spot, freshman MaryKate Boylan (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks South) at the No. 5 spot and sophomore Nickie Brackbill (Paradise, PA/Pequea Valley) at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, Guidon teamed with Smith to win 8-1 at the No. 2 spot and Boylan teamed with Brackbill to win 8-4 at the No. 3 spot. The playoff berth marks the fourth straight season DSU has qualified for the post-season in the Freedom Conference.
DSU returns to action on Saturday, October 6th when they travel to FDU-Florham for a Freedom Conference match beginning at 1:00 pm.
