Volleyball Splits Tri-Match at Elizabethtown

Sophomore Jen Mellon had a team-high 30 kills in the tri-match at Elizabethtown College on Friday evening.

Elizabethtown, PA (October 20, 2007) – The DeSales University volleyball team split its two matches at Elizabethtown College on Friday evening earning a 3-2 (31-29, 30-28, 27-30, 24-30, 18-16) win over Philadelphia Biblical University before falling to host Elizabethtown College 3-0 (30-13, 30-20, 30-26) in its second match.
 
        DeSales moves to 18-7 with the split heading into the final week of the regular season. In the win over PBU three different players had 10+ kills including freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) with a team-high 20 kills, sophomore Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) with 18 kills and junior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) with 15 kills. Fehnel added a season-high six blocks and 12 digs, while Rivera and Mellon each had two blocks in the win.
 
        Sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had a team-high 25 digs, freshman Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) totaled 22 digs and three blocks and junior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) finished with 50 assists and 11 digs in the win.
 
        In the loss to Elizabethtown, Mellon led the way with 12 kills, while Fehnel finished with seven kills, 11 digs and three blocks. Andrews had a team-high 19 digs, Poplaski added 10 digs and Uliana totaled 16 assists and nine digs to round out the Bulldogs leaders.

         DSU returns to action on Wednesday, October 24th when they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference match with the winner earning the top seed in the following week's Freedom Conference Playoffs. Match is set to begin at 7:00 pm.
