Center Valley, PA (October 23, 2007) – Moravian College won the battle of local rivals on Tuesday afternoon topping the DeSales University men's soccer team, 1-0, in a non-conference game.
The loss drops the Bulldogs to 7-9-2 overall and snaps a two-game winning streak, while the win improves the Greyhounds to 7-10 overall and is the third straight win for Moravian.
DeSales controlled most of the play in the game holding a 22-7 edge in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks, but the Greyhounds took advantage of its opportunities scoring in the 31st minute and played stingy defense to record the win.
MC's goal was scored by senior Ryan Hess as he took a free kick feed from fellow senior Daniel Scavone at the 30:04 mark and flicked a header past sophomore goalkeeper Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) and into the right corner of the net. The goal was Hess' third of the season.
Lawrence made two saves for the Bulldogs, while junior Chris Nederostek made six stops for Moravian to record the shutout.
DeSales returns to action on Thursday, October 25th when they travel to King's College for a Freedom Conference game beginning at 3:30 pm.
