BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (October 24, 2007) – The DeSales University women's soccer team kept its Freedom Conference playoffs hopes alive on Wednesday afternoon topping King's College, 2-1, to finish the Freedom Conference regular season with a 2-4 record.

With the win the Bulldogs are 5-11-1 overall and 2-4 in the Freedom. DSU will need a Delaware Valley College loss on Saturday vs. Manhattanville College and an FDU-Florham loss on Saturday vs. King's College to earn a playoff spot. If DVC and FDU each lose, DSU will finish in a tie for fourth place with King's College and be awarded the fourth and final playoff spot by virtue of its win over the Lady Monarchs today.

DSU took an early first-half lead in its win over King's scoring twice in the opening half. Sophomore Lauren Wiggins (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) started the scoring with her first goal of the season on an assist from junior Katie Dishman (Nazareth, PA/Pen Argyl) at the 21:46 mark.

The lead was extended to two goals just 5:04 before the half as freshman Jill Yetter (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) scored off a cross from Dishman who earned her second assist of the game.

The lead was cut in half at the 54:09 mark when Xavia Ortega scored unassisted for the Lady Monarchs but that was the only goal allowed by the Bulldogs on the afternoon.

DSU enjoyed a 17-3 advantage on shots as sophomore Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) had to make just one save in the win.

The Bulldogs will conclude its regular season on Saturday afternoon when they host PSU-Abington in a non-conference game beginning at 1:00 pm.
