Senior Daniel Jones scored his first goal of the season with 34 seconds left to lift DeSales past King's College on Thursday afternoon.
Wilkes-Barre, PA (October 25, 2007) – Senior Daniel Jones (Ronks, PA/Pequea Valley) scored with 34 seconds left helping the DeSales University men's soccer team record a 1-0 win over King's College on Thursday afternoon clinching the top seed for the Bulldogs in next week's Freedom Conference playoffs.

The two-time defending champion Bulldogs are now 8-9-2 overall and 5-0-1 in the Freedom as they will finish the regular season as the #1 seed. The playoffs will begin on Wednesday, October 31st at home with DeSales' opponent undecided as of today with three more Freedom Conference games this Saturday that will determine the final seeding. A win next Wednesday in the semifinals would advance DSU to the Freedom Conference championship game on Saturday, November 3rd.

Jones' goal today was the first of the season as he took a pass from junior German Reyes (Beach Lake, PA/Honesdale) just as the regulation clock was winding down and scored just inside the post. Reyes took control of a turnover by the Monarch defense when he made a pass to Jones for the game-winner.

The Bulldogs enjoyed an 11-6 advantage in shots, while King's held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. Senior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made three saves to record his fourth shutout of the season.

The Bulldogs are now off until next week's Freedom Conference semifinal match-up. The opponent as well as the start time of the game next Wednesday will be announced this weekend.
