Aston, PA (October 27, 2007) – The DeSales University volleyball team finished its 2007 regular season with two losses at a non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon at Neumann College w/Richard Stockton College.
The Bulldogs lost its first match to host Neumann College, 3-0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-27), and fell to Richard Stockton 3-0 (30-27, 30-15, 30-19). The two losses drop the Bulldogs to 19-9 overall entering the Freedom Conference playoffs which start on Wednesday evening.
In the first match, sophomore Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) led the way with a team-high 10 kills and two blocks. Freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) had six kills, 11 digs and four blocks, sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) finished with a team-high 21 digs and junior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) had 26 assists in the loss.
In the loss to Stockton, junior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) led the way with 10 kills and Fehnel had 11 kills, 12 digs and a block. Uliana dished out 29 assists and totaled 14 digs and Andrews had a team-high 14 digs. Freshmen Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) had 12 digs and Lauren Pacenta (Pottsville, PA/Nativity BVM) added two blocks.
Uliana totaled 55 assists on the afternoon giving her 998 helpers on the year which sets a new single-season record for assists. She breaks the previous record of 984 which was held by Audra Hoffman since the 1998 season.
The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, October 31st when they host King's College in the opening round of the Freedom Conference playoffs beginning at 7:00 pm.
