Mens Soccer Unbeaten Streak Snapped at Four with 3-0 Loss at Muhlenberg

Freshman Kevin Lawrence made two saves in the second half of the Bulldogs 3-0 loss at Muhlenberg
BOX SCORE

Allentown, PA (October 3, 2007) – The DeSales University men's soccer team saw its four-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Wednesday evening falling to Muhlenberg College, 3-0, in a non-conference game.

The Mules (6-3 overall) wasted no time taking the lead as Adison Weseloh beat the Bulldogs keeper to a free ball in the box and tipped home a shot past DSU's sweeper who was guarding a wide open net. The lead swelled to two goals just five and a half minutes later when Greg Leischner fired a shot from 18 yards out that ricocheted off a DSU defender's back and into the right corner of the net.

The controversial third goal was scored just seven seconds before halftime. Eric Miller took a shot that went wide of the net and nearly everyone in attendance heard a referee's whistle blow as several players on the field stopped playing but Evan Rubin hustled after the errant shot and knocked the ball into a wide open net as both teams wondered why their was a whistle. The referee allowed the goal as the clock expired and both teams wondered why the whistle was blown on the field.

Muhlenberg finished the game with a 17-5 advantage on shots as senior Rusty Riedmiller (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) made four saves and sophomore Kevin Lawrence (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick) had two stops after replacing Riedmiller at halftime.

DeSales returns to action on Saturday, October 6th when they travel to Arcadia University to begin defense of two straight Freedom Conference titles with its first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at 3:00 pm.
