Field Hockey Ties Team Record with Nine Goals in Win over Immaculata

Freshman Amy Pulcini scored three goals in the 9-2 win over Immaculata University on Thursday.

Center Valley, PA (October 4, 2007) – The DeSales University field hockey team tied a team record with nine goals earning its second straight, 9-2, over Immaculata University on Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game.
 
        The Bulldogs improve to 5-7 overall with the win, while the Mighty Macs fall to 3-9 overall. DSU jumped out of the gates scoring two goals within the first 1:41 and tallying eight goals in the first 18:55 of the game. The Bulldogs out-shot IU, 33-10, and held a 15-4 edge in corners.
 
        Freshman Amy Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) started the scoring with the first two goals. Freshman Jamie Matthews (Gilberstville, PA/Boyertown) had an assist on Pulcini's first tally. Freshman Kelsey Strowhouer (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) continued the scoring with her sixth goal of the season off a feed from senior Ashley Sparango (Salfordville, PA/Souderton) and senior Casey Opdyke (Bath, PA/Northampton) made it a 4-0 game with her first goal of the year off another feed from Sparango.
 
        Pulcini scored the game's fifth goal giving her a hat trick off an assist from freshman Laura Gibbs (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) at the 12:19 mark and Matthews got into the scoring act with her sixth goal of the year off another feed from Gibbs. Junior Crissy Meehan (Harleysville, PA/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) finished off the Bulldogs first-half scoring with an unassisted tally at the 18:55 mark.
 
        IU got on the board at the 19:56 mark and made it 8-2 late in the second half on a goal from Caitlin Brennan assisted by Diana Sulecki just before DeSales finished off the scoring when Sparango scored unassisted off the rebound of her own shot.
 
        Sophomore Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made four stops for the Bulldogs, while her counterpart, Bridget Dougherty, made 12 saves.

         DSU returns to action on Saturday, October 6th when they travel to Arcadia University for the first Freedom Conference game of the season beginning at 1:00 pm.
