Volleball Win Streak Snapped at Nine, Fall at Messiah, 3-2

Sophomore Kerri Andrews broke the five-game match record with 38 digs in the loss at Messiah.

Grantham, PA (October 6, 2007) – The DeSales University volleyball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end falling to Messiah College, 3-2 (30-25, 24-30, 16-30, 30-27, 16-14), in a hard-fought five-game non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.
 
        The win streak was the longest since the 1997 season when the Bulldogs won 10-straight. The loss drops DSU to 14-5 overall. Junior Joann Rivera (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) led three players with double digit kills with 17 and added 10 digs in the loss. Sophomore Jen Mellon (Media, PA/Penncrest) had 13 kills and freshman Kylie Fehnel (Nazareth, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) added 12 kills, 11 digs and three blocks in the loss.
 
        Sophomore Kerri Andrews (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) broke the five-game match record with 38 digs, surpassing Colleen Arthur who had held the record with 32 during the 2004 season. Junior Ashley Grube (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) continued to play well with four blocks off the bench and junior Sharon Uliana (Fleetwood, PA/Reading Central Catholic) totaled 43 assists and 18 digs in the match. Freshman Alyssa Poplaski (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) continued to play solid defense with 18 digs from the back row.

          The Bulldogs will return to action on Tuesday, October 9th when they travel to The University of Scranton for a non-conference match beginning at 7:00 pm.
