BOX SCORE
Center Valley, PA (October 9, 2007) – A late Wilkes University goal broke a 0-0 tie and lifted the Colonels past the DeSales University women's soccer team, 1-0, in a Freedom Conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
The Colonels (7-6, 2-0 Freedom) scored the late tally with 6:30 left in the game as Bethany Head headed a centering pass from the far right corner into the net for her fourth goal of the season. Julissa Reed earned an assist on the play.
Wilkes held a 10-7 edge in shots in a very evenly matched game. Both teams had three corner kicks and both had chances to score. Wilkes saw its best chance knocked away by freshman Caiti Scott (Schnecksville, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) who was standing on the post on a free kick just outside the box midway thru the second half and the Bulldogs had a few chances go just wide of the goal late in the second half.
Sophomore Katie Halpin (Easton, PA/Notre Dame) played very well in between the pipes making three saves in the loss for the Bulldogs. Liz Pauly also had three stops for Wilkes.
DeSales returns to action on Saturday, October 13th when they travel to FDU-Florham for another Freedom Conference beginning at Noon.
