Center Valley, Pa. (December 18, 2007) – The DeSales University women's basketball team returned to action after a 10-day layoff cruising past Immaculata University, 78-53, in a non-conference game in Billera Hall on Tuesday evening.
Twelve different players reached the scoring column and the Bulldogs (8-2 overall) forced 28 Mighty Mac turnovers to record their eighth win of the season. DSU out-rebounded Immaculata (2-6 overall), 44-33, but shot just 35.1 percent from the field as compared to 43.5 percent from the Mighty Macs.
DeSales jumped out to 24-7 lead and never looked back. The lead grew to as many as 28 points in the first half and peaked at 34 points in the second half before IU finished the game on a 13-4 run to post the final 25-point margin.
Junior LeighAnn Burke (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) was the lone Bulldog in double digits with a game-high 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Burke also grabbed five rebounds, dished four assists and had four steals in the win.
Junior Kim Rarick (Ringtown, PA/North Schuylkill) had nine points and two steals, senior Amanda Kuperavage (Port Carbon, PA/Nativity BVM) totaled nine points and grabbed three rebounds and sophomore Caitlin Miller (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) had seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Freshman Megan Montchyk (Bellmawr, NJ/Paul VI) totaled eight points off the bench, while senior Rose Katz (Berlin, NJ/Eastern Regional) had seven points and three assists in the win.
The Mighty Macs had two players reach double digits including Kasey Hicks with 13 tallies and Nina Cammarano with 10 points.
DSU takes a few weeks off for the Christmas holidays and will return to game action on Thursday, January 3rd when they travel to Wesley College for another non-conference game beginning at 7:00 pm.
