Center Valley, PA (February 15, 2007) – The DeSales University men’s basketball team shot 55.6 percent from the floor and was equally impressive on the defensive end holding Delaware Valley College to just 31.3 percent shooting in recording a 76-51 Freedom Conference win over the Aggies on Thursday evening in Billera Hall.
The win improves DeSales to 17-7 overall and 8-5 in the Freedom Conference, while the Aggies fall to 5-19 overall and 3-10 in the Freedom. A 20-2 run to start the game set the tone for the entire night as the Bulldogs opened up an 18-point lead and never looked back. The lead peaked at 20 points in the opening half and swelled to as many as 27 points on two occasions in the second stanza.
DSU controlled the glass out-rebounding Delaware Valley, 45-27. The Bulldogs were 6-of-15 from three-point land (40.0 percent) and 10-of-13 from the charity stripe (76.9 percent). DVC did an excellent job of taking care of the ball, committing just six turnovers, but were unable to find the mark from the field all night. The Aggies made just 4-of-16 from the three-point arc and were 21-of-67 from the field for the game.
Sophomore Ed Lapinski (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) led three players in double digits with a team-high 16 points off the bench. Lapinski also grabbed seven boards. Junior Phil Stricker (Womelsdorf, PA/Conrad Weiser) finished just one rebound shy of his third double-double of the season with 13 points and nine boards. He is now just 34 points away from becoming the 20th player in men’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points.
Senior Steve Kriczky (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) also reached double figures with 13 points on a 6-for-8 shooting night and junior Eddie Ohlson (Allentown, PA/Parkland) continued his record breaking season with nine more assists to give him 181 on the year. Ohlson is just 26 assists shy of becoming the school’s all-time leader in helpers with 475.
The Aggies were led by senior Isaiah Pinckney with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-20 shooting. Sophomore Jason Seipt also reached double digits with 10 points off the bench.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, February 17th when they host The University of Scranton in the final regular season home game beginning at 3:00 pm. The Bulldogs currently sit in fourth place in the Freedom Conference standings and can earn the #3 spot with a win and an FDU-Florham loss at King’s College on Saturday.
